Position Description – CGIT Camp Director
Objective or Purpose:
To ensure that CGIT Camp Kalalla operates safely and smoothly and follows the mission statement and Kalalla's philosophy of camping.
Qualifications:
- minimum 1 year experience at Kalalla
- minimum 8 years related experience
- St. John's or Red Cross Standard First Aid Course or equivalent
- some experience in leading Christian worship
- extensive leadership experience
Duties:
Pre-camp(in city)
- carefully review all requirements of the day-to-day expectations of the Camp Director well before arriving at camp
- consults Kalalla's manual prior to precamp
- familiarize yourself with OCA guidelines and Quebec standards
- assist Camp Committee/Staff Committee in the recruiting and hiring of staff
- work with registrar and Staffing Committee to assign staff and campers to units
- attend and work with other Directors in planning pre-camp training
- lead, organize or participate in leadership training and camp skills/hard skills, as required
- become familiar with the crisis emergency response plan
- read and be familiar with the Discovery Time material in order to be able to assist and advise counsellors
- plan Sunday morning sermon & service
- prepare inspirational and motivating messages for Staff Meetings, held each morning
- ensure photocopying is completed for all of camp in assistance with Camp Committee members (see list at end of description)
- in co-ordination with Staffing Committee, mail out letter to all staff with dates and times confirmed for staff training and end of camp pick-up
- if necessary, be in touch with Resource Staff to ensure all is in place for their areas before camp begins
Pre-camp at Kalalla (Staff Training)
- check on policies and procedures and review them with staff emphasizing their importance and role in keeping the camp safe and healthy
- lead training, building staff as a team
- ensure cabins/buildings are ready for campers to arrive
- subscribe to the "Code of Professional and Business Ethics for OCA members"
During Camp
- ensure all policies and procedures are followed
- run staff meetings and provide support to staff
- be an active and visible presence in the camp, setting an example of commitment, excellence and caring
- supervise camp activities
- organize/delegate special events
- be available to facilitate activities
- be prepared to make final decisions
- do ongoing checks with staff to ensure potential problems don't develop
- designate a Camp Director delegate in case of absence
- provide ongoing staff feedback and evaluation, both oral and written
- provide in service training when necessary
- mediate conflict involving staff and/or campers
- other duties as necessary
Post Camp
- orally evaluate camp staff, and provide a final written evaluation to Camp Committee
- organize and participate in camp clean-up (consult manual for checklist)
- ensure all follow-up regarding campers and staff is completed
- provide written report to Camp Committee at conclusion of camp
