Position Description – Discovery Time Resource Staff
Objective or Purpose:
To ensure the effective and timely delivery of the Bible Discovery Time program; To
support camper self-esteem and encourage confidence by planning age-appropriate
activities and discussions to enhance spiritual growth and development; To provide
leadership to female campers in a caring and positive environment; To assist with and
be a part of the staff team-building and in creating a positive enjoyable atmosphere
for everyone.
Qualifications:
- minimum 20 years of age
- minimum 3 years related experience (working with children, comfortable
working knowledge of the Bible)
- minimum 1 year at Camp Kalalla
- established leadership experience
- LIT training, leadership training or equivalent
- the ability to lead a group, using effective problem solving and decision making techniques
- the ability to work independently and as a part of the Kalalla staff team
Duties:
— A Bible Discovery Time Resource Staff at Kalalla
- prior to camp –
- may participate in the selection and/or preparation
of the Discovery Program as approved by the CGIT Camp Committee
- receive and review all materials for the Discovery Time Program as
prepared by the CGIT Camp Committee
- prepares and delivers daily Discovery Time program to all units
- accountable to ensuring that all units attend daily
- comes to camp prepared with many games, songs, program ideas and much
enthusiasm as per the Discovery Time program
- flexible in the delivery location of the Discovery time program (using the
various locations on site, may participate in an overnight to deliver program)
- will check in with Director daily to report their timetable noting when
they may be free to support other staff in other areas of camp whenever possible
(i.e., may assist with other camp areas when not delivering the Discovery Time
program)
- has full knowledge of all emergency procedures; abides by camp rules
- understands the confidentiality of camper/staff problems, cares for
campers/staff safety, health and well-being
- upholds Christian philosophy and maintains professionalism at all times
- demonstrates respect for staff, campers and self
- helps campers adjust to camp life, and uses basic team building techniques
to make them feel comfortable
- attends staff meetings and training provided at camp
- participates as much as possible with enthusiasm
- calmly, fairly and diplomatically resolves conflicts that arise
- communicates problems to the director
- works with LIT director to develop the leadership skills of
the LITs and provides written and verbal evaluation of LITs time and experience with
you
